DG Pre-Check Feedback

Pre-check first — no rejection after booking

Electric vehicles are shipped under UN3171 (battery-powered vehicles), Class 9 dangerous goods. Each carrier differs in document requirements, SoC limits and stowage rules — booking without pre-check risks rejection, rolled cargo and lost freight.

Shanghai SIDAJA Supply Chain Co., Ltd. moves DG compliance ahead of quotation: document checklist review, carrier approval and SoC control are completed before space is released. With RORO and container dual routing planned from the start, your EV shipment books right the first time.

NEV & DG Compliance FAQ

The questions our clients ask most about EV export compliance

Are electric vehicles dangerous goods for sea freight?
Yes. Battery-powered vehicles are classified as UN3171, Class 9 dangerous goods. DG declaration and carrier approval are required before loading — but the cargo still moves as normal ocean freight, simply with an extra approval step. With documents prepared correctly, the process adds days, not weeks, to your schedule.
What documents are needed for EV export?
The core set includes battery MSDS, UN38.3 test summary, vehicle certificate, commercial invoice and packing list. Some carriers additionally require a dangerous-goods packaging certificate or battery photos. The exact list varies by carrier and lane — we give you the precise checklist at the pre-check stage.
What if I don't have a UN38.3 report?
UN38.3 is a mandatory lithium battery transport test, usually issued by the battery manufacturer or the vehicle OEM. If it is missing, we guide you to qualified third-party testing labs — allow 2–4 weeks for testing and report issuance. We recommend starting this early, before booking, to keep your sailing date.
Which carriers accept EVs, and how do requirements differ?
Carriers actively accepting EVs include GLOVIS, COSCO, MSC and ONE, among others. They differ in document lists, SoC caps (commonly 30%–50%) and stowage segregation rules. Based on your lane and cargo mix, we match the carrier with the highest approval pass rate and the most suitable sailing.
What is the SoC requirement for EV shipping?
Most carriers cap battery state of charge at 30%–50%, and some require photo evidence of the dashboard reading. We test every unit at gate-in, record the SoC per VIN and keep the photos on file — so the evidence is ready if the carrier or terminal asks.
What happens if the DG pre-check fails?
You can supplement documents or re-submit to another carrier with different criteria. If RORO is limited on your lane, we switch to a container DG solution. Because all of this happens at the pre-check stage — before booking — a failed pre-check costs you nothing in space or cancellation fees.
